FOUR WSEH athletes have been named in the Great Britain team to contest the European Championships in Amsterdam this weekend.

Lawrence Clarke will compete in the 110m hurdles with Ashley Bryant in action in the decathlon.

Amongst the ladies, Morgan Lake goes in the heptathlon whilst Rachel Wallader gets her first international vest in the shot.

n WSEH’s British Athletics League Premier Division status looks to be short-lived after the club finished bottom of the pile in their match in Birmingham on Saturday.

The club managed a total of 140 points to finish well behind match winners Birchfield Harriers (335). Shaftesbury Barnet finished runners-up with City of Sheffield in third place.

With athletes focussing on their international commitments, plus injuries and a couple of no shows, WSEH were not able to cover all the events despite some desperate infilling to plug the gaps by those athletes that were present.

The best placed athlete on the day was Alex Tovey, third in the 800m in 1:53.72.

There were fourth places for Zac Curran in the 400m with 48.49 seconds and Alex Haydock-Wilson, 18, in the B-race in 49.13.

In the field events, Jonny Sawyers took fourth place in the triple jump with 14.59m, whilst Matt George held the same position in the javelin with 61.15m.

Joey Watson had a busy afternoon contesting three of the throwing events. His best result came in the shot with a fifth place on 16.46m.

This Saturday, WSEH host the third fixture in the Southern League at the Thames Valley Athletics Centre in Eton. The club currently tops the table so a good result is confidently expected. the first event is at midday.
