A FRUSTRATING season for Slough in the Home Counties League ended on Saturday with an abandoned match against Banbury.

No club has had more games abandoned this season than Slough (four) with captain, Bobby Sher, believing that any possible title challenge had been washed out.

Sher and his team looked to the heavens once again on Saturday when the visit of Banbury to Upton Court Road was ended by rain.

The Slough captain had been in full flow, taking an incredible 5-25 in eight overs as Banbury were bowled out for 199.

Sher took the key wickets of opener Oliver Clarke (45) and Ashley Blanchard (32) amongst his five-wicket haul, while Banbury skipper Lloyd Sabin added 33 to their total.

Raheel Zaman (2-28) and Berkshire all-rounder Waqas Hussain (2-39) also claimed useful wickets for the home side.

Slough managed 78-3 from 16 overs in response before rain forced the contest to be abandoned.

Lloyd Patternot top-scored with 23 and Shaan Khan was unbeaten on 17, while Blanchard took 2-26 for the visiting team.

The result means Slough finished the season standing fifth in the Division One table with 244 points, behind champions, Finchampstead (329), who had only two games abandoned.

The hosts made 91-7 before rain arrived at Taplow Common Road. Opener Omer Siddique was unbeaten on 31, while captain Andy Harris (3-8) and Liam Manley (3-39) were the best Great & Little Tew bowlers.

Datchet took fourth place in Division Two and finished their season with an abandoned match away to the champions, Horspath.

The visitors had reached 265-7 in 48 overs with Gareth Harte making 136 from only 121 balls and Thomas Lambert 54. Jamil Faruk was the pick of the Horspath bowlers with his figures of 2-36.

Cookham Dean had only a short stay in the league and will be relegated as the bottom team this season, but they did bring the curtain down with a one-wicket win against Amersham.

Amersham batted first at Ricketts Field and were bowled out for 169 in 31.1 overs. Edward Bowcock made 52 at the top of the order, whilst Simon Foster claimed an impressive five-wicket-haul (5-57).
