SLOUGH Town joint-manager Jon Underwood is relishing his club's homecoming to the town as they prepare to play at Arbour Park for the first time on Monday.

Rebels will play their first game at the new ground more than a decade since they last played in Slough – but Underwood has also warned his players they must focus on the job in hand.

He told the Observer: “It is difficult to be honest because it is such an exciting time.

“People are going to be sorting out tickets for others, a bit like when you get a big FA Cup game.

“It is the biggest game a lot of these lads have had for a long time, if ever for some of them in terms of the crowd."

He continued: "“Hayes & Yeading will want to spoil the party, that is the mentality. That is what we would be doing if the shoe was on the other foot.

“They will turn up, see a lovely stadium and surface, and be excited for the game so it will be tough and that is one thing we will have to overcome.

“Teams will turn up here and raise their game, excited to be playing in that stadium.

“So we will have to make sure we turn the place into an advantage for us, get used to the surface and surroundings and make it a tough place to come because teams will love playing there."

Rebels firstly travel to Cirencester on Saturday, but they go into that game fifth in the Southern League Premier Division following a comfortable 3-0 victory against St Ives on Saturday.

And a delighted Underwood admitted: "“It was all about getting the result on Saturday, but it ended up being more comfortable than we expected in the end.

“I think we could have probably scored more.

“We were saying on the sidelines it is not often with 20 minutes to go you get to feel that comfortable in this league, but I think we were so good and well in control that we were almost able to coast over the line which is a rare luxury, but it was good."

With his side having made such a positive start to the campaign, Underwood reflected on Rebels position by admitting: “We had a bad half-hour at Kings Langley but outside of that we have been really pleased.

“In five games, if you are just talking about a bad half hour, then it is a good start.

“Every manager will say maybe have a couple more points on the board, but 10 from five with a very new group of players is a good start and we just need to build on that now."
