A shop owner has criticised the management of the Queensmere Observatory shopping centre in Slough for what they perceive as a lack of engagement with tenants.

The shopkeeper - who wishes to remain anonymous - said they moved into the Observatory at the end of last year.

However, he says he has found a number of shortcomings with management at the centre.

In particular, he claims there has been a lack of engagement from management on the future direction of the centre, making it difficult for him to plan his business effectively.

He told the Slough Observer: "One side of the shopping centre's totally closed for the last two years, and nobody knows what's happening inside.

"There's no news. There's nothing outside to tell anybody if there's ... any sort of plan, what is happening inside."

The shop owner previously owned a premises elsewhere in Bracknell.

There, he said there was a more concerted effort by the shopping centre in promoting the small business inside.

He alleges this has not been the case at the Observatory.

He said the lack of signposting - especially with regard to advertising around the centre - means that business has become dependent upon just two major retailers, which bring in significant footfall.

The shop owner said: "This centre is run by two major brands - TK Maxx and Primark.

"If they don't exist, the shopping centre is closed down. These individual [stores], I don't know how they'd survive."

The Observatory's management have been approached for comment.
