SLOUGH council has revealed it will soon be looking for a new company to carry out repairs to its council houses.

The authority held a meeting with residents last month to discuss the future of repairs.

The current contract is delivered by Osborne Property Services but the council said it would start a 'major procurement exercise' over the next financial year to retender the services.

No reason was given as to why it has decided to change supplier.

The successful company or companies who are selected will take over responsibility for carrying out repairs, refurbishments to empty properties, routine maintenance and will be tasked with ensuring all home are health and safety compliant.

At a meeting on February 20 in Langley, residents who live in council-owned properties were invited to share their thoughts on what they would like to see from the new service.

Councillor Paul Kelly, lead member for housing, highways and transport, said: "This is another way we want to involve residents. We hold monthly housing surgeries, have a Resident Board which scrutinises issues and we would love to have more residents getting involved in our work.

"We also produce a monthly newsletter for council tenants and leaseholders, called Housing Highlights."

He advised tenants to check out the council's website to find updates on housing-related issues.
