A major road has now re-opened near Maidenhead Train Station after a burst pipe shut the road four months ago.

Shoppenhangers Road was closed for Thames Water works on Friday, January 27, after a burst water pipe caused flooding.

At the time, the public were told the section between Ludlow Road and the railway station car park would be closed for approximately three months.

Major disruptions have been felt since, with many motorists being redirected to the Braywick Road.

Upon the initial announcement, former councillor Phil Haseler, who was lead member for highways, said a 45cm sewer had collapsed approximately 20ft beneath the pavement.

A Thames Water spokesperson said: “We identified a collapsed sewer on Shoppenhangers Road in Maidenhead earlier this year.

“Emergency repair works began on Thursday, February 2 and were completed yesterday on Monday, May 22.

"During this time there was a partial road closure for vehicles but pedestrian access remained in place.

“Whilst making the repair our teams found an additional piece of pipework in need of replacement which prolonged the length of work.

“We are sorry to residents and motorists for the disruption and can confirm the work has now been completed and the road re-opened.”

According to the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, the road re-opened on Saturday, May 20.
