The Maidenhead Mosque and Islamic Centre has been awarded the Best Run Mosque Award 2022.

Run by Beacon Mosque Standards, the eagerly awaited awards took place on Saturday, November 26, where representatives from all over the UK came together to celebrate the efforts and achievements of Mosques, Madrassahs, Imams, Alimahs, and volunteers.

Chairman of Maidenhead Mosque Saghir Ahmed said it was 'tremendous' to win such an award.

"It is a tremendous achievement considering that there are hundreds and thousands of mosques and centre's across the UK - doing a lot of good work - which could have potentially taken the award," he said.

"To be recognised is a great achievement as an organisation and as a community.

"There are many things going on at different levels and that's really what clinched it. We are trying to accommodate all age groups and genders."

Maidenhead Mosque has been recognised as a 'focal point' for the community, with a recent renovation opening up more space for visitors and enabling the use of additional space for classes, meetings, seminars and various events.

The Mosque also aims to provide the Maidenhead community with a range of holistic, culturally sensitive services, drawing on Islamic values and heritage, with a view to improving quality of life and enhancing cohesion.

"It is great and a good boost for us and the community," Saghir added.

"There has been a number of years where we have been hoping to get an award - it's great to receive it this year."

Maidenhead Mosque has attended the awards previously, with nominations for several other categories.

There are 11 categories including Best Madrassah Service, Best Women's Service and Best Mosque Volunteer Award.
