Here are the five Slough and Windsor stories you may have missed last week.

1. Slough Bus Station Fire: 18-year-old man arrested

Slough Observer:

An 18-year-old man from Slough has been arrested in connection to the Slough Bus Station fire which happpened on Saturday, October 29.

The man, who has not been named, was arrested yesterday (November 22) on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

He has now been released on police bail.

2. Slough's Thunderbirds-themed Moxy Hotel could be sold off

Slough Observer:

A cash-drained council is “to progress” towards selling off a Thunderbirds-themed hotel in Slough to help plug its financial woes.

Senior councillors were told officers are preparing to sell off the double-decker Moxy Hotel in Slough town centre.

Slough Borough Council declared bankruptcy last year and needs to sell up to £600m of its properties and land in order to reduce its £760m borrowing debt and £479m blackhole.

3. Slough Mosque Al-Madani Masjid shortlisted for award

Slough Observer:

A Slough mosque has been shortlisted for a national award that recognises 'the efforts and achievements of Mosques, Madrassahs, Imams, Alimahs and volunteers'.

Al-Madani Masjid, situated in Slough, has been shortlisted for the Best Madrassah Service as part of the British Beacon Mosque Award 2022

Recognised for its outstanding work in the community, providing children with Islamic education in a fun and engaging way, representatives of the mosque will find out on November 26 if they have won the award.

4. Extinction Rebellion joins Windsor & Maidenhead air pollution protest

Slough Observer:

Environmentalists from Extinction Rebellion joined protesters to support a 2,000-signed air quality improvement petition.

A fourth protest was held outside Maidenhead town hall to back leader petitioner Thomas Wigley’s campaign urging the council to start monitoring PM.2.5, which are tiny bits of solids (known as particulates) that are 2.5 microns or less in width, and increase its PM10 – particulates that are 10 microns or less in diameter - monitoring.   

Councillors unanimously agreed at Tuesday’s full council meeting to add three additional air quality monitoring stations that pick up PM2.5 and PM10, however, when and where these will be placed is currently unknown.

5. Cost of Living: Slough Councillor's Christmas presents initiative

Slough Observer:

A Slough councillor has set up a new initiative to ensure 'nobody goes without a gift this Christmas'. 

Foxborough Independent Councillor Madhuri Bedi said this is the second year of 'Give and Gift'.

"Last year we did it for children, but because people had Give and Gifts for adults, we put them out and children were taking them - they were trying to hide them from their parents - it was very beautiful," she said.
